Two people ‘seriously injured’ after Audi with six people inside crashed into traffic lights on the M60 motorway

Two people were “seriously injured” when an Audi hatchback with SIX people inside hit traffic lights on a slip road off the M60 motorway, police said today.

Greater Manchester Police said there were six people inside the Audi A3 when emergency services arrived at the scene in the early hours of this morning.

Two of them, GMP added, were “currently receiving treatment for serious injuries”. They were said to be in a “serious condition”. The gender or age of the injured was not disclosed.

Police and paramedics were reportedly called to the anticlockwise exit of the M60 at junction 22, near Chadderton in Oldham, at 4am on Saturday. A white Audi was pictured at the scene, with extensive damage.

The junction, which is by the Esso garage on the road, has been cordoned off where it meets the Hollinwood junction. Detectives said an investigation was ongoing and police had issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

A GMP spokesperson said in a statement: “At approximately 4am this morning (Saturday 29 June 2024), our officers were alerted to a single vehicle road traffic collision on the M60, junction 22, anticlockwise.

“It turned out that an Audi A3 was travelling towards the Hollinwood junction in Oldham before colliding with the traffic lights and coming to a stop on the slip road.

“Six people were found inside, two of whom are currently being treated for possible serious injuries.

“Roads remained closed this morning while officers carried out further inquiries.”

Detective Inspector Rachael Stafford, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said the investigation team was working to establish what happened.

She said: “We have been investigating this incident since the early hours of this morning to fully understand what happened and what has left two people in a serious condition.

“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or the vehicle immediately preceding this incident, particularly if there is any dashcam or CCTV footage from the property which was recorded at the time, to assist with our investigation.
