CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) – A Cleveland police officer was taken to a nearby hospital after being hit by a dirt bike on a city street.

According to EMS, the 39-year-old officer was struck on the Detroit Superior Bridge near W. 25th Street in Ohio City at about 9:30 pm on Monday, July 1.

The officer was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to EMS.

The President of the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association Andy Gasiewski tells the I-Team the officer was getting checked out at the hospital last night and he is hoping to get an update soon.

Gasiewski has told the I-Team previously he is concerned about officer safety due to low staffing numbers.

The FOX 8 I-Team heard reports of several dirt bikes in the area at the time.

The I-Team has reported multiple times on groups of dirt bike riders taking on Cleveland streets.
