Galena man arrested for assault after fleeing officers – Newstalk KZRG

A Galena, Kansas, man was arrested Sunday evening on assault and other charges.

Police say 45-year-old Raymond L. Williams was involved in a fight near 11th and Keller Street. When officers arrived on the scene, Williams fled on foot.

He then tried to break into three houses and took a bicycle from a woman who was passing by.

Williams eventually abandoned his bike south of Baker Street and ran into a wooded area, crossed a fence line and ran into dense underbrush. When officers caught up with Williams, he continued to physically resist.

When the officers put cuffs on him, he spat and tried to smear blood and other bodily fluids on the arresting officers, while also threatening all the officers who arrived at the scene.

Charges were filed through the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office for aggravated battery, obstructing a law enforcement officer, assault and making criminal threats.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be filed.
