Sharpsburg mayor arrested for fourth drunk driving offense since 2018

The Rocky Mount Police Department arrested Sharpsburg Mayor Robert Williams Monday afternoon.

At 5:37 p.m., the Rocky Mount Police Department received a call from an anonymous tip about a reckless driver traveling south on N. Wesleyan Blvd.

The police found the vehicle and stopped it for a road check.

The driver turned out to be 59-year-old Williams, who was driving a white Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Williams was arrested for driving under the influence, driving while license revoked, open container weapons and a concealed firearm violation.

Williams’ case remains under investigation.

The City of Sharpsburg confirmed the arrest in a brief statement, saying Williams’ privileges will remain suspended in accordance with the Board’s Jan. 4 decision under North Carolina General Statute 160A-70.
