Famous chef Justin Sutherland found himself in legal trouble after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a gun.

This Fast food lovers star was charged Monday, July 1, in Ramsey County District Court in Minnesota with making threats of violence that came days after police responded to a call about a man with a gun, Us Weekly confirms.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by local NBC affiliate KARE 11, the woman told police that Sutherland, 40, pointed a gun at her during the incident on Friday, June 28. The chef allegedly hit her in the chest with the gun, saying, “Don’t come back here or I’ll shoot you.”

The criminal complaint also alleged that the victim said Sutherland put his hands around her neck and said, “I want you to die.”

In a statement for PeopleSutherland’s attorney, John Dalystated that the criminal complaint was “full of lies.”

“Mr. Sutherland vehemently denies all of the allegations in the complaint,” he told the newspaper Monday. “He never threatened to shoot anyone. He did not physically assault his girlfriend. He looks forward to the truth coming out as the legal process unfolds.”

While the criminal complaint states that Sutherland and the victim began arguing because they no longer intended to go to the music festival, the chef’s attorney has a different take. As for what allegedly prompted the woman to make the claims, Daly said, “The relationship was coming to an end.”

After a court appearance Monday, Sutherland was released on his own recognizance and ordered to surrender any weapons he possesses to police within 24 hours, the Star Tribune reported. He is due back in court on Aug. 16.

Before he became a co-host of the TruTV show Quick Food loversSutherland has made several television appearances, including in Season 16 The best chef in 2019 and winning the episode Iron Chef America.

In July 2022, Sutherland was injured when he was involved in a boating accident. According to a GoFundMe page set up at the time, the foodie was the captain of the boat and while he was adjusting his captain’s hat, it flew off. As he tried to catch it, the boat hit a wave and he fell off the boat, causing a series of injuries.

Eventually, Sutherland was able to recover from the incident that left him with a broken arm and jaw. Earlier this year, he announced plans to open Pearl & the Thief in the Mill District of Minneapolis.
