Occasional thunderstorms and muggy temperatures didn’t deter people from coming out to devour nearly 2,500 pounds of sea bass during the 74th annual Fish Fry, held June 28-29. Hosted by the Prairie Township Firefighters Association, proceeds from the beloved western dish go toward purchasing supplies and equipment for the department, as well as helping fund other community events. Among the hundreds of volunteers who helped make the two-day event a success was firefighter Nathan Wright, shown here preparing to carefully place breaded sea bass into the hot oil.

In addition to the pecan pie, the department also served apple pie, cherry pie, lemon meringue pie, pumpkin pie and chocolate cake. Heinlein said he can vouch for the taste of all the varieties. “I ate two of each,” he joked.
