18-year-old to stand trial for Omaha teen’s murder

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – An Omaha teen accused of murder will appear in court.

Kianna Opal, 18, appeared in Douglas County Court for a preliminary hearing Monday, where Judge Sheryl Lohaus bound her case over to District Court. Opal is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Ezra Sinkiawica.

Around 3 a.m. on May 12, Omaha police responded to a report of an “unknown medical nature” in the area of ​​the intersection of North 53rd and Spaulding Street.

Officers arrived on scene to find the victim, Sinkiawic, had already been transported to Nebraska Medicine in a private vehicle with stab wounds. She died a short time later from her injuries.

Witnesses reportedly recognised Opal, who was still at the scene when the suspect and police detained her without incident.

The police statement on the matter remains confidential and Opal remains in custody without bail.
