Justin Timberlake asked fans if anyone at his concert was “driving” after he was charged with a drunk driving offence.

The 43-year-old American pop star, who rose to fame as a member of boy band NSYNC, was arrested on Tuesday in Sag Harbor, a wealthy hamlet in the Hamptons in New York state.

Police say he failed to stop at a stop sign and remained in the right lane.

On Saturday, in a video posted on social media, he addressed the crowd at Boston’s TD Garden: “Is there anyone driving? No, I’m kidding.”

Timberlake has vehemently denied the allegations, with his lawyer saying he looks forward to “vigorously defending” the singer.

The Sag Harbor Village Police Department said Timberlake was stopped at 12:37 p.m. local time on June 18 after officers observed him “failing to stop at a properly placed stop sign and maintaining his lane” while driving a BMW.

Court documents say the officer described his eyes as “bloodshot and glassy” and added that “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was coming from his breath.”

“He had poor concentration, slow speech, was unsteady on his feet, and performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests,” court documents said.

The “Social Network” actor was held overnight in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court while he awaited a hearing and release.

The court hearing is scheduled for July 26.

He previously addressed the arrest, saying it was “a tough week” after returning to the Chicago stage for the first time following his arrest in June.

Timberlake is set to continue his U.S. concert streak. He’ll hit the stage in Boston on Sunday night, then head to Baltimore, Maryland; Cleveland, Ohio; and Lexington, Kentucky.

The Grammy Award winner’s European tour will kick off on July 26 in Krakow.

The concert programme includes shows in Birmingham and Manchester, as well as two shows at The O2 in London this August.
