Canadian tourist dies after serious attack on O’Connell Street

A Canadian tourist who was attacked on O’Connell Street in Dublin has died in hospital.

Neno Dolmaijian, from Montreal, Quebec, was attacked on O’Connell Street in the early morning hours of June 23. Four people were arrested in connection with the attack, and two of them were charged.

Mr Dolmaijian died on Tuesday (July 2), nine days after the attack, in the Mater Hospital with serious injuries. Mr Dolmaijian died.

RTÉ reported that Mr Dolmaijian’s parents and sister were at his bedside in the Mater when he died on Tuesday.

Ionut Danca, 24, of Rathdown Square, North Circular Road, and Madalin Ghiuzan, 23, of Summerhill Parade, Dublin, were charged with assault occasioning harm. Two others were arrested and released without charge.

Both Danca and Ghiuzan were remanded in custody and denied bail.

Gardaí continue to appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of the attack on Mr Dolmaijian to come forward.

Police want to speak to people who were in the area of ​​Cathal Brugha Street, near the Living Room Bar, between 12.40am and 1am, and also people who were in the area of ​​O’Connell Street Upper, near the Spar Shop/Funland/tourist office opposite the Spire, between 12.40am and 1am on Sunday 23rd June.

Anyone with dashcam footage (including dashcam footage) is asked to make it available to Gardaí.
