Portage County inmate forced to go on the run after failing to return to jail after furlough |  WSAU News/Talk 550 AM · 99.9 FM

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU-WAOW) – After a three-hour furlough Friday, a 28-year-old Portage County Jail inmate is missing and is currently at large.

Matthew Garsomke, 28, was placed on leave from jail by the Portage County Circuit Court, according to a release from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, and was not seen again after his scheduled return time of 1:30 p.m.

According to descriptions, Garsomke is a Caucasian male who weighs 203 pounds, is 5 feet 7 inches tall, has hazel eyes and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, gray shorts, blue sneakers and a blue sweater. Garsomke had been in custody since Jan. 28 and was being held on $1,500 bail for burglary and other charges.

Garsomke was last seen walking northbound on Strongs Avenue in Stevens Point around 10:35 a.m. Friday.
