Today we celebrate those who live by the values of duty, respect and integrity. On National Forest Firefighter Day, we thank every forest firefighter, support staff and contractor who work together to protect life, property and natural and cultural resources. It takes many people with specialized skills, and today we recognize all of them. Whether you carry a Pulaski, a radio, a computer, a headset, a map, a clipboard or a camera to work, we thank you for your service! #ItTakesAllOfUs

It’s almost time for the biggest fireworks celebration of the year. It’s no wonder that fireworks cause forest fires every year. Fireworks have no place on public lands, and even on your property, they should be handled with great care. Do your part to prevent forest fires by enjoying your public lands during the celebration.

The Alaska Interagency Coordination Center’s Predictive Services and its partners have issued a Fuels and Fire Behavior Warning covering central Alaska to the northeastern interior to the Canadian border. Alaska is in the peak of its fire season, and conditions are likely to worsen with the continued and recurring hot, dry air masses combined with the long daylight hours. California has already issued a Fuels and Fire Behavior Warning highlighting abnormally high fine fuel loads throughout the state. Residents, travelers, or workers traveling to these states should be notified and aware of the increased risk.

The National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook for June through September has been released by the National Interagency Coordination Center’s National Prediction Services. For additional information on the current forecasts, visit the Outlook page on the NICC website.
