SAN JOSE — Police said a driver was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of drunken driving causing death after he drove his car into the second floor of an East San Jose home, killing his passenger.

Fortunately, no one in the household was hurt when a Subaru sedan drove into the house early Saturday morning.

The crash was reported at 2:26 a.m., and San Jose police said a preliminary investigation showed the woman was driving a red 2022 Subaru west on McKee Road “at a high rate of speed” when she lost control of the car near Francis Drive.

That caused the vehicle to cross the center median and all oncoming lanes, striking the southbound curb of McKee Road. The car then crashed through a fence and into a backyard, where it struck a two-story home on Sorgepark Place, authorities said. Residents were evacuated shortly thereafter.
