GURAHATI Darrang and Dibang Valley in Assam’s Arunachal Pradesh state have been named two of the 30 districts that are performing best in implementing a joint action plan on “prevention of drug and substance abuse among children and illicit trade”.

The plan was prepared by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and the Narcotics Control Bureau and released in February 2021.

Darrang District Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey received a certificate of appreciation from Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityananda Rai in New Delhi on June 30. Additional Deputy Commissioner Jalley Umpo received the certificate for Dibang Valley district.

The Joint Action Plan aims to wean children off drugs and prevent the sale of drugs near schools, other educational institutions and childcare centres through coordinated actions in a limited time frame.

The district judge or bailiff is the person responsible for monitoring the implementation of the plan.
