Iowa Park man sentenced to probation for death for driving under the influence of alcohol

An Iowa Park man has been sentenced to probation and probation in connection with a late 2022 crash that killed one person and injured two others, court documents show.

Jerry Ashton Tidwell, 24, pleaded guilty Friday to DUI manslaughter and DUI aggravated vehicular assault and was sentenced to 10 years probation, supervised probation and a $3,000 fine.

Manslaughter under the influence of alcohol or drugs is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and assault by vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is punishable by up to 10 years.

An Iowa Park man has been sentenced to probation for causing death by drunk driving.

The indictment was finalized in 30th District Court two days after Tidwell was arraigned on the charges.

According to court documents, on December 23, 2022, at approximately 12:50 a.m., a pickup truck struck a concrete barrier at the intersection of Iowa Park Road and Sheppard Access Road.

Two men were thrown from the pickup truck. One man, Toby Hasten, 25, of Wichita Falls, died in the hospital four days later from his injuries.

A second man, who was ejected, and a third man in the pickup truck were injured.

Police said at the time they suspected alcohol may have been a factor in the crash and said the men had spent the night before the crash bar-hopping.

According to online jail records, Tidwell was arrested on July 13, 2023, and released on bail the same day.
