8-year-old playground shooting victim released from hospital, 2 victims remain hospitalized • Michigan Advance

All but two of the victims of the Father’s Day weekend mass shooting at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills have been released from the hospital, with the 8-year-old victim being released Friday, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.

The 8-year-old boy, who was shot in the head and whose name has not been released to law enforcement, was one of two children shot by a man police identified as Michael William Nash, who opened fire on families enjoying a swimming hole on the sunny afternoon of June 15. The 8-year-old’s brother, 4, was shot in the thigh and released from the hospital last month. Their mother, 39, remains hospitalized with stomach and leg wounds.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office public information officer confirmed that Achievement that law enforcement still has not discovered a motive for Nash’s actions and may never find one, as Nash was found dead in his mother’s home after being shot, most likely by himself.

Hours after the shooting, an AR-style rifle lying on a kitchen table near Nash led police to suspect that further action might have been planned, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

“We don’t know what the next chapter is,” Bouchard said at a news conference hours after the shooting. “I think because we stopped him quickly, if he was planning on doing anything else — and it wouldn’t surprise me because it’s not an everyday occurrence to have this (AR rifle) on your kitchen table — there probably was something else, potentially a second chapter.”

The mother of both boys and another woman, aged 30, remain hospitalised, according to the sheriff’s office. A total of seven victims with gunshot wounds have been released from hospitals.

The city of Rochester Hills has set up several GoFundMe pages to identify and provide support to some of the families affected by the shooting. including the two youngest victims and their mother.

Law enforcement officials described the scene at the playground as so chaotic it looked like there were ice cream and children’s shoes strewn about, and families were running for their lives.
