California Campaign Wants to Stop Upcoming Nevada Fireworks Show

(The Center Square) – A California campaign wants Gov. Gavin Newsom to do something about illegal fireworks from Nevada.

TNT Fireworks, a leading wholesale distributor of State Fire Marshal Approved, Safe and Sensible fireworks, has long promoted fireworks safety and education, including co-sponsoring legislation that would allow local governments to impose administrative penalties for illegal possession and use of fireworks.

TNT also works with local anti-illegal fireworks groups in California to address issues unique to Golden State communities while also seeking stricter fireworks regulations, including monetary penalties.

TNT’s concerns include the loudness of Nevada’s illegal fireworks. Pointing to a San Francisco City and County Grand Jury report on illegal fireworks in the Bay Area, TNT said it was clear the fireworks were not approved by California.

“The loud fireworks explosions in San Francisco that have been reported in the city are most likely caused by fireworks that are illegal in California but available for sale in neighboring Nevada,” the report said.

Meanwhile, Nevada law enforcement is doing what it can to crack down on illegal fireworks. A social media post from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says officers will be on the lookout for those who don’t follow the law.

“Our officers have confiscated entire trucks, stacked floor to ceiling, and containers filled with fireworks that will not be fired off in neighborhoods this year,” LVMPD said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Fines start at $500!”

Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick said her office needs the community’s help in the fight against illegal fireworks.

“They can cause fires and injuries, and many people and pets are very sensitive to the loud explosions caused by fireworks,” Kirkpatrick said in a news release. “We ask people to only use safe and sensible fireworks as part of family celebrations and to leave large displays to the professionals.”
