VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Virginia Beach City Public Schools has received a $37,500 grant from the Grief-Sensitive Schools Initiative from the New York Life Foundation to develop a support plan for students coping with loss.

The grant complements efforts by the Coalition to Support Students in Fear, a collaborative effort among K-12 organizations to provide care to students who are coping with loss.

Children with unresolved grief can exhibit behavioral problems and poor school performance. Additional resources and training provided by the grant will equip teachers with tools to support students struggling with grief.
