Davenport man arrested for fleeing and trying to ram a police car

A Davenport man was arrested by police yesterday morning after he attempted to ram a police car while fleeing from police.

According to court documents, police saw a GMC SUV traveling east on Locust Street at a high rate of speed on Sunday, June 30, at 3:53 a.m. The officer activated his lights and sirens after seeing the SUV fail to stop at two stop signs. The driver of the SUV continued to evade police by driving more than 25 miles per hour over the speed limit, making unsafe turns and disregarding road signs.

The chase ended on Grand Avenue when the SUV tried to plow through a Davenport Police cruiser with its lights and siren activated and an officer inside. The SUV was disabled and the driver tried to escape on foot. The passenger evaded arrest and was not identified. The driver was arrested after using a Taser and identified as Charles A. Wilson, 20, of Davenport. He told police he ran away because he was afraid. Records show Wilson was banned from driving and was convicted of fleeing in Scott County in 2017 and 2022.

Charles Wilson III (Scott County Jail)

Wilson was charged with one count of first-degree misdemeanor, a class C felony, of failing to speed 25 mph (second or subsequent offense), a class C felony, of assault on persons in occupation – use/display of a weapon, a class D felony, and of driving while prohibited, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Wilson was released on $20,000 bail and will appear in court again on July 25 for arraignment.
