England hero Marc Guehi sealed a euphoric victory over Slovakia despite suffering a painful shoulder injury that required an injection in stoppage time.

The Crystal Palace defender was hampered in the first half and the injury caused him severe pain and required prolonged medical treatment on the pitch.

However, Guehi was determined to finish the match and the centre-back underwent further treatment during the break, including an injection. He managed to play the full 120 minutes despite feeling severe discomfort.

Guehi received his second yellow card of the tournament against Slovakia after trying to compensate for a misplaced pass from Kieran Trippier, meaning he will be suspended for the quarter-final against Switzerland on Saturday.

While trying to compensate for a pass, Guehi twisted his shoulder in a collision with Slovakian striker David Strelec.

The defender underwent a lengthy treatment and needed an injection during the break to finish the match.

The injury has made Guehi’s appearance in this weekend’s clash uncertain, but there is hope he will be fit enough to return for a potential semi-final next week.

The race is now on to replace Guehi in the quarter-final squad, with Ezri Konsa, Lewis Dunk and Joe Gomez among the candidates to replace the Eagles star.
