NFL suspends Tashaun Gipson for six games for violating performance-enhancing substance policy

Free agent Tashaun Gipson was suspended for six games by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance abuse policy.

The suspension will not go into effect until the start of the regular season if and when Gipson signs with a team. The former 2014 Pro Bowl selection, as a member of the Cleveland Browns, is still eligible to participate in all preseason activities, including games.

Over 12 seasons in the NFL, Gipson has recorded 684 tackles, 33 interceptions and three touchdowns in 173 games (165 as a starter) for the Browns (2012-15), Jacksonville Jaguars (2016-18), Houston Texans (2019), Chicago Bears (2020-2021) and San Francisco 49ers (2022-2023) after going undrafted out of Wyoming.

The 33-year-old, who was reportedly considering retirement, has appeared in all 33 games he has played in the past two seasons for the 49ers, tallying 121 tackles and six interceptions.
