A suspended lawyer will be expelled

A court has ruled that a suspended lawyer found guilty of professional misconduct in connection with a 2007 land transaction should be struck off the register.

Last month, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) found Declan O’Callaghan guilty of professional misconduct in connection with the sale of land at Aughadiffin, Kilkelly, Co Mayo in April 2007.

Mr O’Callaghan, a former solicitor at Roscommon law firm Kilrane O’Callaghan & Co, was suspended in 2018 for reasons unrelated to his business.

The SDT ordered the Bar Association of Ireland to apply to the Supreme Court to strike Mr O’Callaghan off the roll of solicitors.
