Man jailed for sex abuse offences in Ayrshire

A man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of sexual abuse offences in Ayrshire.

John Sturgeon, aged 41, committed these offences, including rape and domestic violence, against two women over a three-year period.

He was previously found guilty of ten charges at the High Court in Glasgow and returned to court on Wednesday 3 July 2024 to hear his sentence.

Detective Inspector John Shaw, of Ayrshire Domestic Violence Detective Inspectorate, said: “Sturgeon is a violent individual who has shown no remorse for his aggressive and abusive behaviour towards these women.

“I would like to commend the women for their strength in coming forward during the investigation. Their information was vital to helping us build the case against him and I hope this outcome will give them a sense of closure.

“If anyone is experiencing or has experienced any type of sexual violence or abuse, please report it. We have detectives dedicated to investigating such crimes. You can be assured that you will be fully supported by officers and our partner agencies.”
