Car theft suspect hits cop trying to put up spike strips during Georgia chase

A Tennessee police officer was hospitalized after being hit by a car during a chase in Georgia.

On Monday evening, East Ridge Ofc. Alan Resendiz attempted to set up spike strips to stop a car driven by 22-year-old Ta’Bious Tezmon Wheat of Clarksville, Tennessee.

East Ridge police said Wheat crossed into the opposite lane and hit Resendiz, exceeding the speed limit.

According to officers, Wheat continued south on Interstate 75 toward Georgia while officers rendered aid to Resendiz.

Wheat was later arrested in Whitfield County and is awaiting extradition to Tennessee.

Resendiz was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. He is currently in stable condition, although he faces months of recovery, the department said.
