Motorcyclist seriously injured in collision with car

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash that blocked the main road through the village.

Emergency services were called to the A61 Derby Road in Wingerworth, south of Chesterfield, at 8.10am UK time on Tuesday morning.

The collision, involving a black BMW car and a blue BMW motorcycle, occurred near the junction of Nottingham Drive, and the road was closed between Lodge Drive and Longedge Rise.

Police said the motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition remains serious but stable.

Derbyshire Police said in a statement posted on social media at around 9.45am that the closure was “likely to continue for some time” and that the road would not reopen until 1.30pm.

Derbyshire Fire Service said one casualty was treated by East Midlands Ambulance Service crews upon arrival at the scene.

Firefighters secured the scene of the accident and left it in the care of the police.

Police are appealing to anyone with any information to contact them.

Derbyshire County Cricket Club is advising those travelling to the County Championship match against Yorkshire at Chesterfield to plan ahead for the ground to close.
