Oklahoma City police officer found dead in lake Stanley Draper identified

The search for missing Oklahoma City police officer Greyson Fox has ended after his body was found Tuesday morning, Oklahoma City police said.

Fox was identified by police on Tuesday afternoon.

Oklahoma police said that on Monday around 6:00 p.m. officers received a report of a man who had fallen overboard at the lake.

Upon arrival at the scene, Oklahoma City firefighters said they learned that four people were on the boat when two of them fell into the water.

The passengers managed to rescue one of the passengers who went overboard, but lost contact with the other, an adult male, who never surfaced.

Dive teams used sonar technology to search the lake. Although they typically stop searching at night, they decided it was safe to continue.

“We normally hold off on recovery operations for the safety of our divers,” said Jim Williams, OKCFD shift commander. “But with the weather like this, nice and calm, we can continue through the night.”

Search crews found Fox around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

On Tuesday, OCPD shared Fox’s death on social media, noting that he was off duty at the time. OCPD said Fox started the academy in August 2023.

Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt shared his statement on Tuesday:

“Greyson Fox’s greatest public legacy is his dedication to public service. That legacy is matched by the joy he brought to so many as a beloved son, brother and friend. He will be deeply missed by our city and we grieve with the Fox family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”
