A Metropolitan Police officer and another person were seriously injured when a vehicle hit them in the car park of a Las Vegas grocery store at about 6.30pm on Tuesday.

Police said the driver was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police said the officer was speaking with the person when a westbound vehicle traveling at a “high rate of speed” left the road and turned into a grocery store parking lot at the northeast corner of Boulder Highway and South Lamb Boulevard.

Both the officer and the person suffered “serious but non-life-threatening” injuries, according to police, who confirmed the officer had a leg injury. No structures were damaged in the collision.
