Norwalk cop retires months after road rage arrest

Norwalk police officer David Vetare has been charged in a road rage incident. He was accused of following a woman and trying to run her off the road.

NORWALK, Conn. (WTNH) — A Norwalk police officer accused of a road rage incident in March retired Tuesday after an internal affairs investigation found he violated Norwalk Police Department conduct policies.

David Vetare was arrested on March 9 by Connecticut State Police officers after he allegedly drove behind a woman and tried to run her vehicle off the road.

During the investigation, police found that Vetare confessed to his involvement in the incident.

Vetare is charged with careless driving, operating a motor vehicle with intent to harass or intimidate, second-degree endangerment and second-degree disorderly conduct.

The arrest prompted an internal affairs investigation, and Police Chief James Walsh said last week that the investigation found Vetare violated several codes of conduct outlined in the Norwalk Police Manual.

Walsh issued the following statement:

“As I have previously stated, these actions do not define our department as a whole and are not a reflection of the men and women of the Norwalk Police Department who serve our citizens. I understand that these events have shaken the trust in our department that we have worked so hard to build in the past. I assure the residents of Norwalk that I am committed to transparency, officer accountability and maintaining the highest standards of integrity.”
