Wednesday’s Baby: 15-Year-Old Andre – CBS Boston

WBZ/MARA

MARE – Andre, who describes himself as “amazing”, is a charming young African-American man. He is very empathetic and loves animals. Andre plays basketball, makes music (especially rap), and likes to show off his skills. He also loves playing PlayStation 5 and being outdoors.

Andre enjoys making others laugh. He is very good with younger children and enjoys being a leader. He does well in school with IEP support. Andre is smart, enjoys reading, doing math, and enjoys participating in online and tutored school activities. He does well when given lots of positive reinforcement.

Andre would like nothing more than to have a loving and committed two-parent family, whether there are other children in the home or not. Interested families should be knowledgeable about the IEP process and education to help Andre with his education.

Interested families must demonstrate a strong commitment and provide their child with appropriate ethnic and cultural role models and information about the culture from which he or she comes, which also includes discussion of racism and discrimination.

It is also important that the families involved are willing to allow him to maintain contact with his biological family, as Andre describes them as important to him and they are important in maintaining a connection with his culture. He currently maintains telephone contact with his sister and biological parents, and probably visits them in person once a month.

Since its inception in 1981, Wednesday’s Child has been a collaboration between the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE), the Department of Children & Families, and WBZ-TV/CBS Boston. Hosted by Jack Williams for 34 years, this weekly series has given a face and voice to children who have been waiting the longest for a family. Wednesday’s Child has helped find homes for hundreds of waiting children and continues to raise awareness about foster care adoption.
