Who is America’s Got Talent’s new boy band Menudo?

Ricky Martin got his start in the original boy band Menudo.

Trying to make it as a musical group can be difficult and intimidating, but when you have big shoes to fill as the new version of a once-beloved group, the stakes are even higher. Just ask the new Menudo, a boy band that has performed on America’s Got Talent and wowed not only the judges, but also the audience.

For those who don’t know the old Menudo was a boy band from Puerto Rico that rose to fame in the 1980s for their pop songs, but also for being a revolving door of talent. And pop star Ricky Martin was also a part of the group. The original group officially ended in 2009, but “original” may not be the most appropriate word for the members of the group that preceded this new Menudo group. ACT.

Over the years, there have been dozens of different Menudo singers because the group has remained eternally young. Instead of the group members aging out, like the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC, new members were chosen to replace the Menudo singers as they got older. Today, Menudo has been revamped and the current group’s singers are on stage. ACT.

Who is the new boy band Menudo from ‘America’s Got Talent’?

The group now consists of Nicolas Calero, Andés Emilio, Ezra Gilmore, Gabriel Rossell and Alejandro Querales. Their music is in Spanish and the boys are all quite young, as was the case with many of the original members of Menudo. For this group, however, actor and television host Mario Lopez participated in choosing the members.

In August 2022, Menudo Productions and Mario began holding auditions looking for boy band members between the ages of 12 and 16. By March 2023, they had their boys. At the time, Mario released a statement about the difficult choice of whittling down all the talent to a handful of band members.

“Determining the five finalists was harder than we could have ever imagined because there was so much great talent to choose from,” he said in the statement. “The five guys we selected clicked immediately and the music they created exceeded all of our expectations. I believe we have several huge hits coming and I am more excited than ever to introduce these guys to the world in less than three weeks.”

What happened to the original Menudo band?

Many different singers came and went in the original version of Menudo as fans once knew it. But in 1009, the group officially disbanded. It’s unclear why, but it paved the way for Mario Lopez to take an interest in reviving the group. And now, that group is on ACT.
