Gabby Agbonlahor believes the £54m Man City star is starting to slow down

Gabby Agbonlahor believes the £54m Man City star is starting to slow down

Manchester City have eight players who are over the age of 30.

Pep Guardiola has the fifth-oldest squad in the Premier League, with an average age of 26.3.

Despite this, City have fielded more players (14) to represent their countries at Euro 2024 than any other team in the top flight.

With the quarter-finals of the tournament approaching, a number of City players have already dropped out of the competition.

But now one of City’s senior players has become the talk of the town following his latest international appearance.

Gabby Agbonlahor says Kevin De Bruyne isn’t as sharp as he used to be

Asked about Kevin De Bruyne on talkSPORT following his recent performance for Belgium in the 1-0 defeat to France, Gabby Agbonlahor spoke about the midfielder and his future as a top-flight player.

He said: “Even watching him last season, he didn’t have the momentum in midfield that he had in previous years at Manchester City. That’s normal, you get into your early 30s, you lose a yard. But technically, as good as he is, he can still play at the highest level.”

De Bruyne is still an important player for City

Despite undergoing surgery on a serious hamstring injury that kept him out of action for months last season, the midfielder managed to score six goals and provide 12 assists in 19 Premier League and Champions League appearances.

In Belgium’s defeat to France, the 33-year-old, who City paid £54m for in 2015, was dribbled twice and lost five of his seven duels.

Agbonlahor is not the first talkSPORT pundit to share his thoughts on De Bruyne and his recent performances for Germany, with Darren Bent calling him one of the disappointments of the tournament ahead of the France clash.

In our opinion, despite any dips in the midfielder’s form or physical fitness, he has still proven to be a key player for City, scoring goals on a regular basis.
