Former York couple plead not guilty and seek leniency in abuse case

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A former York Elementary School resource teacher pleaded guilty Tuesday and admitted to molesting a child.

Scott Velasquez-Lopez, 23, was found guilty of two misdemeanor counts of child abuse.

Charges of two counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child were reduced under a plea agreement.

Velasquez-Lopez was arrested in January after the school principal reported the assault.

Court documents say he allegedly inappropriately touched a 6-year-old boy outside school grounds.

The verdict in the Velasquez-Lopez case will be announced on August 26.
