Driver chases Durham police, tries to hit officer with car, police say

DURHAM, North Carolina — Durham Police are investigating an early morning crash on Denfield Street.

Shortly after 1 a.m., a Durham police officer pulled over a driver. After stopping the car, the driver fled, hitting the officer’s cruiser. Police said the driver tried to hit the officer who was outside his cruiser, but the officer managed to get away.

A pursuit ensued. The driver struck two parked cars in the 4500 block of Denfield Street, causing the car to overturn. After fleeing on foot, a dog on foot was able to locate the suspect.

The driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither officer was injured.
