Bronx stabbing: 29-year-old bystander stabbed to death during road rage incident in Morris Heights

MORRIS HEIGHTS, Bronx (WABC) — Police on Wednesday morning continued to investigate the fatal stabbing of an innocent bystander following a road rage incident in the Bronx.

Ronald Gomez-Mesa, 29, was killed Tuesday when he was stabbed in the chest near a day care center in Morris Heights.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of West Tremont Avenue and Phelan Place. Two drivers had a feud that, instead of being resolved quickly, ended in bloodshed.

Police say one of the drivers involved in the incident, a woman, got out of her car armed with a baseball bat.

Then, police say, she called her boyfriend to the scene.

He appeared in the presence of a group of onlookers, some of whom recorded him on their phones.

Police say a man on a scooter threw a bottle at the angry couple and sped away.

According to police, that’s when the driver’s boyfriend pushed another passer-by to the ground.

According to police, an innocent man, Gomez-Mesa, intervened.

According to police, the suspect caught up with him and stabbed him in the chest.

Gomez-Mesa collapsed in front of a nearby kindergarten.

Police spent the night collecting evidence at the scene, including a knife.

Candles are now left in his memory.

No arrests have been made so far and the investigation is ongoing.
