Xbox Live suffers widespread outage, Xbox Support ‘investigating’

Xbox Live is currently unavailable, negatively impacting the lives of thousands of gaming fans.

Players who tried to log into their accounts this afternoon found they were unable to log in and play games as usual. Microsoft describes the incident as a “major outage” on its official website Xbox Live Service Status PageThe company says the problems with its service began just after 2:00 p.m. ET, and its website Shortage Detector reporting a peak of more than 38,000 outage reports around 3:00 p.m. ET.

Xbox Live is not working.

While a few have shared that they were finally able to log into Xbox Live, Microsoft says the login issues affect Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 consoles, as well as mobile devices, web services, cloud gaming, backward compatibility, and Xbox on Windows. No explanation for the outage was provided, but in the meantime, Microsoft said in Post on X/Twitter that the company is investigating the matter and asks concerned players to visit its status page for up-to-date information.

“You may be unable to sign in to your Xbox profile, may be disconnected while signing in, or have other related issues,” the status page reads at the time of this story’s publication. “Features that require you to sign in, such as most games, apps, and social activities, will not be available.”

The widespread Xbox Live outage means thousands of gamers have a ton of questions and a ton of free time on their hands, and many have quickly taken to social media to share memes in search of answers. While everyone is in the same boat, waiting for Microsoft to step in with some good news, many are just glad they’re not the only ones having trouble playing.
