He is due to appear at Jedburgh Sheriff Court today.

The incident first happened in February when Hogg was arrested at the home of his estranged wife for allegedly behaving in a manner that caused fear and distress.

The alleged incident took place on February 25 – the day after the man attended the Scotland v England match in the Calcutta Cup at Murrayfield Stadium.

He then appeared at a short hearing at Jedburgh Sheriff Court in May, where he denied abusing or stalking his wife Gillian.

Hogg is also accused of monitoring his wife’s communications and controlling her family life for seven years.

He was also charged under section 1 of the Domestic Violence Acts for Scotland, alleging that he committed “violence” against his wife Gillian.

Hogg, who is currently separated from Gillian and in a relationship with Sky Sports presenter Leonna Mayor, also denied a third charge of breach of duty.

The former captain, who was smuggled out of court under a coat in the back of his parents’ car, denies the charges. He was originally arrested in February this year.

His trial is due to begin in just over four weeks, on July 30. Sheriff Derek O’Carroll will agree to grant him bail in the meantime.

However, this morning Police Scotland confirmed Hogg had been arrested on suspicion of breaching bail conditions.

Hogg arrived at his final hearing with his parents, and was allowed to enter the courthouse through a side door — usually reserved for lawyers and court officials — to avoid cameras and the public.

He was then given access to the witness room where he could sit and wait to be called to hear his case.

His lawyer, Matt Patrick, asked for Hogg to be acquitted.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At approximately 2pm on Tuesday 2 July 2024, officers attended an address in Hawick where a 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with breaching bail conditions.

“He is due to appear at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, July 3.”

Hogg retired from rugby union before last year’s World Cup,
He amassed 100 senior caps and took part in three British and Irish Lions tours.

But last month he made a complete career turnaround and signed a two-year contract to return to rugby.

He has been officially signed by his new club, having previously been linked with hometown clubs Hawick and Newcastle Falcons, as well as teams in Japan.

He signed a two-year contract with French club Montpellier with the option to extend for a third season.

Hogg is one of Scotland’s most highly regarded rugby stars, with 100 caps and the country’s all-time leading scorer.

He also won national and European titles with Glasgow Warriors and Exeter Chiefs.

Hogg was awarded the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2024 New Years Honours List for services to rugby union.

As well as playing professionally for Glasgow and Exeter, he also played as an amateur for Ayr, Stirling County and Hawick.

Since retiring, Hogg has worked as a rugby pundit and analyst for TNT Sport.
