Travis Kelce Explains How He Got On Stage With Taylor Swift

In case you missed it, Travis Kelce recently swapped his cleats for dancing shoes in Eras Route in London and explains how this now-popular number came about.

“This is so unlike me. I’m not big, I don’t like going on stage. There were a lot of people there who really didn’t feel at home,” Travis, 34, joked on the Wednesday, July 3 episode of “New Heights” after his brother, Jason Kelcementioned a “magical” surprise.

Kelce flew overseas to support his girlfriend, Taylor Swiftwhile she played three sold-out shows at London’s Wembley Stadium from June 21-23. He attended the first two shows with Jason, 36, and his sister-in-law Kylie Kelcebut the most memorable moment came on the third evening.

“I first mentioned it to Tay, I thought, ‘How funny would it be if I just rode out on one of the bikes during 1989 (section)?’ She started laughing, she said, ‘Would you really do something like that?’ I was like, ‘What? I’d love to do that, are you kidding me?'” Travis recalled Wednesday. “I’ve seen this show enough, I might as well get a job here. And of course, she found the perfect part of the show for me to do. There wasn’t, like, a bike in case I ran into someone else or hit one of the dancers or something. It was, like, the safest thing to do.”

During the new season of Swift Tortured Poets Department set, Travis appeared on stage alongside two of his dancers after her performance of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived.” Travis carried Swift down the runway, pretending to throw a tantrum before she sang “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” In a video that has since gone viral, Travis fanned himself as Swift changed into a new costume. When she was ready to sing again, she blew her boyfriend a kiss, and he beamed on stage.

“Kam and Jan, (in) part Tortured poets era of the show, you’re trying to bring Tay back to life, right? You’re trying to bring her back to life, get her ready to do the rest of the show, so to speak, knowing that she might do it with a broken heart,” Travis explained on the podcast. “That’s such a fun, such, fun part of the show.”

Jason chimed in that TTPD hit became one of his favorites in Swift’s discography. “Even before that happened, it was a great song,” he said.

The interlude was “the perfect moment” for Travis to get on stage and “be a ham” with his girlfriend. “(I) just made sure I had fun with Tay and that I did her makeup. It was fun, I had a great time,” he continued. “It was an honor to be on stage, obviously, with Taylor, but even Kam and Jan, knowing Kam’s brother Kalen Saunders, we played together in KC, we won two Super Bowls together. … (He) is one of my favorite teammates, so to be able to rock the field with him and now rock the stage with his brother, you know … it was an absolute blast.”

Emphasizing how grateful he was for the opportunity to share the stage with “three professionals” who happily entertained his antics, Travis said there was only one thing on his mind during the performance.

“Listen, all I said to myself was, ‘Don’t drop the baby. Don’t drop Taylor on the damn couch,'” he joked. “The golden rule was, ‘Don’t drop Taylor. Get her safely to the couch.'”

He gushed about Swift’s professionalism, adding, “You can’t do anything wrong when Taylor’s on stage, she’s the best to do it. … Shout out to Tay for letting me jump on stage with her. Who knows, it might not be the last time.”

Big Travis Eras Route his debut earned him praise from his mother, Donna Kelcewho shared a clip of the surprise on Facebook after the show. Many of Swift’s backup dancers also celebrated the special moment by reposting memes and videos on their Instagram Stories after the show.

Meanwhile, on June 24, Swift mentioned the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback on social media while recaping her weekend in London.

“The first round at Wembley Stadium was so surreal. Looking out at the 90,000 fans every night and hearing that LOUDNESS… Those were some of the loudest crowds I’ve ever heard. The acoustic sections were TURNED OFF. …And I’m still laughing/swooning over @killatrav’s Eras Tour debut ,” she wrote alongside a slideshow of photos, including one of Travis on stage with her. “I’ll never forget those shows. Can’t wait to do this 5 more times in August. Next up: Dublin!! .”

Asked to compare Eras Route Travis said on New Heights that it was “shocking” to hear how loud Swift’s London crowd was.

“And you don’t realize how big this damn stage is. … It’s so much bigger than I could have imagined. So when I was on stage, I was like, ‘Man, I feel tiny here.’ Like, ‘Oh, s—t,’” he added. “But no, it was great and I didn’t disappoint Taylor, so that’s all that really matters.”

Travis has been spotted in many places Eras Route shows since he began a romance with Swift last summer. He famously attended one of her shows at Arrowhead Stadium in July 2023, later confessing on “New Heights” that he was “pissed off” over not being able to meet the pop star backstage. (Travis had planned to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.)

The couple went public with their romance in September 2023. After flying to South America, Australia and elsewhere to support Swift on her tour, Travis was one of the first to see her updated tracklist as she debuted songs from TTPD in Paris.

“I had a great time at Tay’s concert. Her new version Eras Route“I recommend everyone watch it,” he raved on his podcast in May, a month after TTPD was released. “She has her new Tortured Poets Department (album), a bunch of these songs in a new show, which means there’s a new segment and new lights and new dances, everything new in this fucking show. I advise everyone to go out and see (her). It’s absolutely incredible.”
