More than 10 months later, there is still no decision on whether the Johannesburg chief prosecutor will have to stand trial

Johannesburg Public Prosecution Chief Andrew Chauke has finally been investigated over his handling of the cases against Crime Intelligence Chief Richard Mdluli and the Cato Manor Police Unit. (Submitted)

It has been more than 10 months since National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shamila Batohi signalled her intention to request an investigation into the qualifications for office of Johannesburg Chief Prosecutor Andrew Chauke.

However, President Cyril Ramaphosa, the only person with the authority to order such an investigation, has not yet made a decision.

In August last year, Batohi told Chauke she would write to Ramaphosa asking him to suspend him until the investigation was completed – but nothing happened.
