213 prisoners from 13 jails across Telangana released from Cherlapalli Central Jail

A total of 213 convicts, including 178 men and 35 women, were granted early release from Cherlapalli Central Prisons in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The Telangana Prisons Department has provided jobs to many of them. This includes 70 posts in the ‘My Nation’ petrol barracks. The officials have also distributed sewing machines to eight released women prisoners.

“As part of their rehabilitation, prisoners are being given an opportunity to pursue higher education at the Dr. Dr. BR Ambedkar Open University Study Centre,” a prison official said.

Of the 213 prisoners released, 61 were from Cherlapalli Central Jail, 27 from Chanchalguda Jail, 20 from Warangal Central Jail, 31 from Prisons Agricultural Colony in Cherlapalli, 35 from Hyderabad Special Prison for Women, 15 from Nizamabad Central Jail, seven from Adilabad District Jail, one from Sangareddy Central Jail, two from Mahabubabad District Jail, four from Nalgonda District Jail, seven from Karimnagar District Jail, four from Khammam District Jail and three from Asifabad Special Jail.

The decision to release the prisoners came after applications were submitted by their families under the Praja Palana programme addressed to the Telangana Chief Minister.
