The mother of a Georgia firefighter who went missing last week and was found dead in a car with his ex-girlfriend raised the alarm that her son may be in danger even before the tragic discovery.

Days before her son’s death was announced, Jane Kuhbander wrote on her Facebook page that her son Chandler Kuhbander may have been “forced” by his ex-girlfriend Raegan Anderson and that he “is believed to not be with her of his own free will.”

Kuhbander and Anderson were found dead in Cocke County, Tennessee, on Sunday, June 30, the Hinesville, Georgia Police Department said in a statement.

The two firefighters, who had also previously been involved in a long-term romantic relationship, went missing June 24. Their bodies were found together in Anderson’s black 2017 Ford Focus, police told local station WJCL.

Hinesville Police Chief Tracey Howard told the outlet, “I don’t believe the investigation in any way indicates that whatever happened was related to anyone other than the two individuals that were found.”

Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander

Kuhbander and Anderson had been in a relationship for about seven years, dating back to high school, Jane Kuhbander told WJCL last week. However, they recently broke up, and Anderson was arrested last weekend after she spotted her ex-boyfriend on a date with another woman at Olive Garden, then interrupted the date before parking his car in the restaurant parking lot, according to an incident report obtained by WJCL.

Kuhbander was last seen leaving the gym and getting into Anderson’s car on Monday, June 24, his mother told WJCL. Kuhbander’s mother told the station she last spoke to her son on Monday morning, when he told her Anderson had been calling him constantly and threatening her.

“He was telling me she was blowing up his phone and that she was threatening to kill herself,” Kuhbander’s mother told WJCL. “And it’s not the first time she’s done that.”

On social media, Kuhbander has been pleading all week for help finding her son, emphasizing that she believes “Raegan is not a bad person.”

“She is a great firefighter,” the mother wrote in a June 27 social media post, pleading for help finding Anderson and her son. “She is lost, unstable, and (losing) what she has known for 7 years. They were/are not good for each other. She is making bad decisions because of it. They are not a couple, but he cares deeply about her. We don’t want anything bad to happen to either of them, we want them to come home safely.”
