MARION, S.C. (WBTW) — Three people arrested Tuesday in connection with the June slaying of a Marion man initially told police a 3-year-old accidentally shot the man.

Marion residents Dre’shawn Jy’rine Dorsey, 20, Laniya Ashley Hall, 37, and Jacorial Takyra Gregg, 21, face charges in connection with the June 3 slaying of Nigeria Davis in the 1100 block of Strawberry Street.

“Initially, investigators believed the shooting was an accident and that the victim was shot by the 3-year-old,” Marion police said in a news release Wednesday. “After further investigation, it was determined that the victim was shot by Mr. Dre’shawn Dorsey and not the 3-year-old.”

Dorsey has been charged with murder, discharging a firearm into a residential building, discharging a firearm within the city limits, possessing a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, pointing or displaying a firearm to another person and unlawfully endangering a child.

Hall and Gregg are charged with obstructing justice and accessory after the commission of murder. All three suspects are being held at the Marion County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Marion police at 843-423-8616 or through the department’s iPhone and Android apps. Tips can remain anonymous.
