New online child and adult abuse hotline launched – KCSR / KBPY

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Division of Children and Family Services (CFS) is pleased to announce the launch of a new online portal for reporting suspected child and adult abuse and neglect. This user-friendly online portal, located at neabusehotline-dhhs.ne.gov, complements the existing statewide Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline by providing Nebraska residents with an additional avenue to report concerns about abuse and neglect.

“This new website not only simplifies the reporting process, but also makes it easier for CFS to catalog those reports,” said CFS Director Dr. Alyssa Bish. “Having such an important tool available to the public is critical to ensuring we can take action on reports of abuse and neglect in our state.”

The online reporting portal is available 24/7, allowing people to report concerns on their own schedule. The website has separate options for reporting allegations of child and vulnerable adult abuse and neglect. Once selected, reporters will be asked to provide their personal information so that they can be contacted to clarify the information by CFS, the court or law enforcement. Reporters can still choose to remain anonymous.

Reporters will be asked to provide as much information as possible about the victim, including personal information and means of communication, the alleged perpetrator, and other household members. The report includes the option to provide as much detail as possible about the incident of abuse or neglect, previous attempts to contact law enforcement, and other supporting information.

Reports submitted online will be forwarded to appropriate personnel at DHHS. By including their email address, reporters can be notified whether their report has been accepted for review.

The Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-652-1999.
