SAN FRANCISCO — A man was arrested on murder charges Monday night for allegedly pushing a 74-year-old woman onto a train at the Powell Street BART station, causing her fatal head trauma, BART police said Tuesday.

The name of the dead woman was not immediately released.

The suspect, 49-year-old Trevor Belmont, who authorities said was homeless, was also arrested on suspicion of causing injury to an elderly person likely to result in serious bodily injury.

Belmont, who police said was also known by the alias Hoak Taing, was being held in the San Francisco County Jail without bail.
