The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office has released the identity of an inmate who died last week after a medical emergency at San Diego Central Jail.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report that 42-year-old Richard Woodford had collapsed at the Front Street Jail and found him unconscious and unresponsive on the bathroom floor around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Despite resuscitation attempts by medical personnel and paramedics, Woodford died before being transported to the hospital, the department said.

“At this time, the cause and manner of death have not been determined by the (county) Medical Examiner’s Office,” sheriff’s Lt. Michael Krugh said Tuesday.

Woodford, who was homeless, was arrested June 25 in Santee on a misdemeanor warrant charging him with intent to defraud and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
