The search continues for Zyanya Valora, a missing 21-year-old with autism who was last seen in Mira Monte near Ojai, Ventura County officials say

OJAI, Calif. (KABC) — Authorities are asking the public for help in locating an autistic woman who left her Ventura County home and went missing.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, 21-year-old Zyanya Valora was last seen the evening of June 24 at her home on North Ventura Avenue in Mira Monte near Ojai.

Since then, search and rescue teams from Ventura, Kern, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties have been dispatched to try to find the woman.

“We went to the gas stations, they didn’t have any footage and they didn’t see her. None of the other restaurants in the area, none of the fast food restaurants, none of them have any idea where she could be,” said Damaris Dac, Valora’s mother.

Her family is desperate to find her.

“We put up flyers, searched on trails, rivers, streams,” said her father, Gabriel Valora, adding that lately his daughter has been acting more reclusive and doesn’t want to talk — even to her parents.

“She understands everything. If she wants to talk to you, she will,” he said.

Community members have been actively searching for the past week. Now, as temperatures begin to rise, search teams are concerned about another threat they may face: extreme heat.

“It gets really hot here in Ojai and at night it drops and it’s really cold. If anyone sees her, call 911 immediately. If possible, keep an eye on her while they’re on the line,” said Deputy Alberto Castellanos with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

“You can assist in the search by walking around your private property to check for buildings and dense underbrush where Zyanya could have sought shelter. Also, review home surveillance footage for evidence of Zyanya’s presence,” the law enforcement agency said in a news release.

She is described as 5 feet tall, weighing 90 pounds, with black hair and dark brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white top, short shorts and no shoes.

Authorities say Valora is considered an endangered individual and may not be communicative if approached.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at (805) 654-9511.
