Miami Twp. Police Officer Buys Formula for Young Mom in Need While on Duty

A Miami Township police officer was recognized for a recent act of kindness he performed while on duty.

On the night of June 15, Corporal Hunter Willoughby received a call from a post-partum mother who said she was unable to feed her week-old infant, police said in a social media post Tuesday. The young mother reportedly told dispatchers her milk had dried up and she could not get formula at that time of night.

Willoughby went to a local Meijer store around 3:30 a.m., which was closed at the time, and knocked on the front door. Body-worn camera footage shared with the post shows Willoughby explaining the situation to an employee.

The employee allowed the officer to enter. He bought formula and bottles for the mother while he was in the store and delivered them to her home.

He paid for it out of his own pocket and refused to accept payment from his mother when he brought it to him.

“It’s not often you hear about everything a police officer does during their shift,” Police Chief Mike Mills wrote in a social media post, “but I do, and this is an example of the Miami Township Way.”
