24-year-old woman killed in shooting near Wendell

WENDELL, North Carolina — A 24-year-old woman died from injuries suffered Sunday evening following a shooting near Wendell.

At approximately 10:40 p.m., Wake County Sheriff’s Office officers responded to the 7000 block of Hodge Road for a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Serenity Spencer suffering from a gunshot wound.

Spencer was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she died.

The homicide investigation is ongoing. Investigators say they found multiple shell casings at the scene.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office said this is the first fatal shooting this year and the third homicide.

The sheriff’s office said Spencer did not live at the home where the shooting occurred.

Investigators believe the shooting is related to an ongoing dispute.

The sheriff’s office said there is no threat to the community.
