A woman suspected of using a hijab to kill and who was believed to be hiding during a botched contract killing in the UK has been arrested while allegedly hiding in Armenia.

Aimee Betro, 44, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is said to have been hired by British father and son Mohammed Aslam, 56, and Mohammed Nazir, 30, to murder boutique owner Sikander Ali.

However, she fled when her gun jammed as she tried to shoot a man outside a house in Acocks Green, Birmingham, in September 2019, they claim, and has not been seen since.

A jury at the city crown court, where Aslam and Nazir were later convicted of conspiracy to murder in connection with the failed attack, heard that Betro was wearing a hijab during the attack.

Betro, who has not been charged, is believed to be in custody in the former Soviet republic and awaiting extradition to the UK, MailOnline reports.

She is believed to have been working remotely from a secluded apartment in a gated community for which she collected $600 a month in rent, and rarely went outside except to buy groceries.

Neighbours said they were terrified when they learned of the international arrest warrant for the woman, adding that they only became aware of her presence when she was shouting at her cats.

Betro is said to have flown from the United States to the UK to seek revenge for Aslam and Nazir, who had a grudge against business rivals Mr Ali and his father Aslat Mahamud.

During the trial, the father and son learned that Betro had contacted them before the failed murder attempt and had been sending weapons from Illinois.

Mr Mahamud also claimed that he received a telephone call from a woman speaking with an American accent who asked about the possibility of buying a Volkswagen Golf he had for sale.

In a statement about the failed shooting, his son recalled: “When I turned around and looked, I saw the driver’s door was already open and the person was walking toward me.

“I saw that this person had a gun in his hand. I felt fear. This person moved his hand towards me and pointed directly at me.

“At that point, I panicked. I immediately got back in my car and slammed the door.”

Last month, Birmingham Crown Court heard that Betro’s gun jammed when she aimed it at Mr Ali’s head and pulled the trigger.

She reportedly returned to the address a few hours after the failed attack and fired three shots that pierced the windows. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Jurors learned the alleged killer returned to the U.S. two days later.

A few days later, Nazir flew to the States and listed her as his contact.

Social media posts suggest he may have stayed with her before returning to the UK a month later, at which time he and his father were arrested.
