Chelsea ‘seriously considering’ signing Portuguese EURO hero

Chelsea ‘seriously considering’ signing Portuguese EURO hero

After saving three penalties in a row against Slovenia in Monday’s EURO round of 16 match, Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa etched his name into the history books.

Costa, 24, single-handedly secured Portugal’s place in the quarter-finals of the tournament, putting in an excellent performance and boosting his name value.

The 24-year-old was expected to leave Porto this summer so it is understandable that he is attracting a lot of interest and according to recent reports he has admirers at Premier League club Chelsea.

Chelsea ‘seriously considering’ signing new goalkeeper

Spanish daily Fichajes believe the Blues are “already seriously considering” signing the Portugal number one.

Chelsea, backed by American billionaire Todd Boehly, boast five goalkeepers, including number one and last summer’s signing Robert Sanchez.

However, with doubts over the Spaniard’s ability to become the Londoners’ clear number one, it seems a new goalkeeper could be on Enzo Maresca’s shortlist.

Porto’s Costa certainly has the potential to significantly strengthen Chelsea’s squad, but the Blues won’t be naive enough to think they are the only ones interested in the 24-year-old.

Although Costa still has three years left on his contract, his recent Euro heroics will almost certainly see his value increase – a hurdle Chelsea and other teams will have to overcome if they are to land one of the most impressive goalkeepers this summer.
