Netflix’s Reed Hastings Calls on Biden to Resign from Election

Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings wrote in an email this week that President Biden should drop out of the 2024 presidential election.

“Biden must step down to allow a vibrant Democratic leader to defeat Trump and keep us safe and prosperous,” Hastings wrote to New York Times.

Hastings’ comments join a growing number of outspoken Democratic supporters calling on Biden to step down, angered by the president’s performance during last week’s debate. New YorkHastings and his wife, Patty Quillin, have donated more than $20 million to the Democratic Party in recent years.

Netflix did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

On Tuesday, WME CEO Ari Emanuel also expressed frustration with Biden’s recent outburst about his age. “Well, I’m mad at the founding fathers,” Emanuel said at the Aspen Ideas Festival. “They had a 35-year start date, they just didn’t give us an end date. And well, everybody died (then), so they didn’t have to give us an end date.”

He also accused the president’s advisers of hiding the truth about Biden’s physical strength and mental acuity. “I had a father who died at 92, but when I was 81, I took his car, and it was a very simple test for me,” he said. “If you were driving from downtown Beverly Hills to Malibu, would you want Biden to do it at night? Would you want Trump to do it at night? If the answer is neither, you can’t let them run a $27 trillion company called the United States.”

Biden will face the press again this Friday when he speaks to George Stephanopoulos in his first televised interview since the debate. ABC News will stagger the interview, running segments across multiple shows.
