A Boulder man has been arrested in connection with two shootings in the city over the past week.

John Paul Gaudreau, 35, has been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic violence, endangering the person and violating a protective order. Additional charges are pending, police said.

A man checked himself into the hospital after a shooting near 28th Street and Mapleton Avenue just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from Boulder police. The man said he was shot by an unknown man. However, police said they were able to identify the suspect.

Last week, police received a report that someone heard shots fired around 9 p.m. Friday in the 1600 block of 28th Street. Police said they investigated the report but did not find any victims at the time and had limited leads, according to a social media post.

During the investigation, police said they linked Wednesday’s shooting to Friday’s and found Gaudreau at his home in the 1700 block of Baseline Road.

Police also contacted the victim of Friday’s shooting, who was shot in the arm and did not seek medical attention until Wednesday.

Multiple teams were called in Wednesday to contact Gaudreau and arrest him. At 11:15 a.m., he surrendered to officers and was arrested without incident. At least one firearm was recovered, police said.

“Crimes like these do not occur often in our community. When they do, they are fearful and extremely disturbing to our agency, and we arrest those responsible as quickly as possible,” Boulder Police Interim Chief Stephen Redfearn said in a release.

“Since Friday, our detectives have been working diligently to identify those involved in this case. The successful arrest in these crimes is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our investigative and patrol teams, and I am grateful that our tactical teams were able to safely arrest this suspect without further injury to anyone.”

Both cases are still under investigation.

Police ask that anyone with information contact Detective Scott Byars at [email protected] or 303-441-1970 and refer the case to tip line 24-6285.
